Ladi6, with Parks and Julien Dyne (“with our powers combined, we are LADI6”) at San Francisco Bath House last night were pretty damn breathtaking. With a drumstick in hand (which she would twirl round or whack a tambourine with to punctuate the beat) and hood draped over her head Ladi6 suddenly resembled (to me) a kind of modern day, significantly fly-er fairy godmother. She alternated between music old and new, pausing to acknowledge the enthusiastic audience and to lead us all in a round of Happy Birthday for her once it hit midnight. With Parks on the turntables and Julien Dyne on percussion (at several points jumping onto a drumkit) and supported by MC Silva who reappeared to share the stage with her at one point, Ladi6 was confident, super graceful, and received with much love from the audience. I’ve been away most of this week but first thing on my to-do list is to go find The Liberation Of…
(I love how her album has the dot dot dot. It feels like I’m finishing the sentence in a mysterious way whenever I write it down…) We didn’t take our camera but give her new track Bang Bang from The Liberation Of… a watch. We love it.
