Turkey Lurkey Time from Promises, Promises (1968)
Obsessed.
I’ve been waiting till December 1st to post this video and now, here we are. This song may be ridiculous but the choreography is breathtaking - it looks simple by today’s Janet Jackson standards and it’s grainy as anything but still, watch it, watch it. While Baayork Lee and Margo Sappington are wonderful, this is another of Donna McKechnie’s shining moments (she’s the light-skinned woman with short hair and a reddish dress). Her ability to move like water, so light and sharp but so loose and relaxed is astounding. She would later go on to star in A Chorus Line with Baayork Lee, so it’s cool to see this footage of them in an earlier role.
And if I haven’t done a decent job of explaining this strangely compelling video’s appeal, I recommend you allow Seth Rudetsky to do it for you.
